Marco Bacciagaluppi, M.D., trained in psychiatry in New York. He was a pupil of Silvano Arieti, whose books he later translated into Italian. In 1979 he became Fellow of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis. In 1996 he was First President of OPIFER (Organizzazione di Psicoanalisti Italiani – Federazione e Registro), an association of independent Italian psychoanalysts. Since then, OPIFER has held yearly Joint Meetings with the AAPDP (American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry). In psychoanalysis he is particularly interested in the relational approach. Another area of interest of his is Bowlby’s attachment theory and the application of evolutionary theory to psychology. A special area of interest is Fromm’s humanistic psychoanalysis. He is Honorary Member of the International Erich Fromm Society and has published many articles and book chapters on Fromm. Finally, he is especially concerned with the widespread occurrence of psychic trauma.
